If you’re a regular around these parts then it’s no big secret that I’ve fallen madly in love with By Terry’s Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection. A twist-up, thick pencil formed eyeshadow that glides on, stays put through wind, rain, tears, whatever and adds just the right amount of definition around the lash line for a non-eyeliner lover like myself. It’s pricey, but pretty much perfection as the shade name would suggest. I’d become so infatuated with the stuff that I’d completely forgotten that another colour had preluded my purchase to this one and it wasn’t until Lily pointed out the use of the hue Misty Rock in Tanya’s ‘March Favourites’ video (an episode witnessed in this vlog), that prompted a riffle around my drawers. And sure enough – there it was.

Whereas Brown Perfection finds its form best as an eyeliner/smudgey scribe hybrid, Misty Rock is more of a traditional ‘all over the lid’ jobbie (see it in action here). A pinky, taupe mix with a hit of shimmer that requires a layered prescription of mascara to truly look done – it’s kind of foolproof. Start on the lash line, build up to the crease, get in there with your finger to break up the outline and there you have an everyday eye that will stay in place until it sees contact with the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover (my budge-proof makeup remover of choice). It is a texture that’s heavy on the sheen, and being a matte kinda gal it takes a bit of getting used to, but the weather calls for things to get a little glowier on lid and my tip is just to go in light handed with the nib.

They are ridiculously pricey (read: £28 from Space NK for a measly 1.2g of product), but it’s a formula that warrants the outlay because it is just so darn awesome. The best cream shadow I’ve tried? Yeah, I’d say so. They’re my current favourite things to swatch in-store all the way up my arm and I think Bronze Moon will be next…any other suggestions?

I saw Zoella using these in one of her videos and I’ve wanted to try them ever since – £28 is just a tad too steep for me though…

Even on a primer, these crease so horribly on me that I find them unwearable. I have Bronze Moon and Misty Rock. A much better option, less sparkle, easier to blend and budgeproof, not to mention less expensive, is the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks.

i really prefer the laura mercier caviar eye sticks! I feel that the formulas are very similar though the By Terry have more shimmer/metallic finishes. and of course, the laura mercier is way more affordable and have so many options :)

Sooo expensive.. I actually think the Maybelline Color Tatoo in On and On Bronze is kind of similiar?

i got a byTerry concealer after waiting and debating over NARS and it was so expensive ! it takes ages to come out and i’m scared it’ll use up quickly. a very very high-end brand and i’m still unsure whether it’s worth it.

These are so pretty! There must be a dupe out there somewhere

    • Lucy Diamond

Give Barbara Daly eyeshadow shader sticks a try, the bronze is amazing as an eyeliner and they are waterproof – cost £2.50 at the moment, I got as many as I could!

Oooo thanks for the head up! Will definitely look into this :)

Have you looked at Amelia’s dupe suggestion of the kiko eyeshadow sticks? Do you have any thoughts Anna? I have kiko sticks and they are great – not tried the by terry range though!

Ombre Mercure is beautiful too – and I’ve never come across anything quite like it.

Get Bronze Moon, it’s going to look amazing with your eye colour. It’s my favourite and I think I’m going to wear it a lot in summer.
