I’ve always loved a good red nail polish, but nine times out of 10 I’d plump for a nude given the choice. Common’ you know how I feel about Nails Inc Porchester Square? If you’re new round these parts it’s basically my desert island nail colour; because if I was stranded painting my nails would be top of my priorities, of course. But for the past three months or so, pretty much exclusively, blackened plums have ruled the roost. Chic and understated, in a ‘I rolled out of bed and my nails were just painted like this’ kind of way and a flatterer of short cut nails. Here I dedicate a few words to my favourite five…

In my head this post would be a little overview of each colour, with a few comparisons and shade run-downs thrown in but when I lacquered up each nail it became increasingly obvious that we had five dupes on our hands here. There are a few minute differences though which I will endeavour to beef this post out with. From left to right we have Butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in La Moss, By Terry Nail Lacque in Terrybly Terry, Revlon Nail Enamel in Vixen, CHANEL Le Vernis in Rouge Noir and Essie Nail Polish in Luxedo. Of the five the CHANEL paints on the smoothest with no streaking, the By Terry is the most purple and has the best brush and the Essie is the blackest of the all. The By Terry also has the shiniest finish sans top coat and out of the bunch Vixen and Rouge Noir look almost identical which is fabulous news given the rather hefty CHANEL price point.

The lesson learnt from this post? A black cherry nail is a black cherry nail – they all look the same. And the fact that I have another five or so tucked away in my stash that could have easily made it into this post, means that it might be about time to have a clear out.

I think that Wicked has more brown pigment in and is a tad lighter than Luxedo. I just purchased Luxedo and am in love with it :)

I don’t think you can really go wrong with a dark red for the holidays. I just got a gel manicure today with a gorgeous wine color! Not quite a black cherry but a beautiful deep red. I want to say it’s called malaga wine by OPI? Something like that haha.
