My lip lovin’ roster reads a mixed bag at the moment and I’m being a bit of a floozy when it comes to formulas, refusing to be pinned down to a certain category. Glosses, bolds, nudes, shines and good ol’ lipsticks, here’s what I’m currently kissin’ and crushin’ on in the lip department…
When the bold lip horn calls, Topshop’s Lip Cream in Fox* comes out to play. Sitting in between the textures of Giorgio Armani’s Lip Maestros and Rimmel’s Apocalips – I actually prefer it to the latter. It’s not as sticky and imparts a hit of a universally-flattering red to my pout with a slightly sheeny, not to be confused with glossy, finish. Fuss-free application and no bleeding that hangs around for three-four hours or so before fading away. I’m impressed. If I fancy a day without ‘is this lipstick on my teeth‘ paranoia then MAC Patisserie’s my go-to lip jam. A brown-toned nude with an undertone of pink that deviates just a smidge from my natural lip colour with a tiny slick of shimmer giving a glow-like finish. One of only a few MAC lipsticks still in service in my stash.
Back in the day I was all about the pinks – MAC Angel, St Germain, the Lady Gaga lipstick, heck there was even a time when YSL’s Lingerie Pink was top of my wishlist. But now I prefer my pinks a little less startling and a little more subtle. Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 is the perfect compromise for this; still with a baby pastel hue but formulated in a glossed-out washed-on finish. You know I’ve got a lot of love for these. A similarly glossy option from YSL’s summer 2013 menu is YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Lévres Glossy Stain in #31 Corail Alla Prima*. Two coats and a high-shine pinky coral tint is yours – not too ’in yer face’, but not too meek either. Have I stumbled across this summer’s bold lip choice? I’ll keep you posted. Back to nudes, and if MAC’s Patisserie had a slightly slicker and less shimmery sister, Lipstick Queen’s Saint Peachy Nude* would be it; it’s in the same colour vein but one I reach for when I’m in a lipstick/gloss hybrid mood and yes this is a mood that I often experience. I’m lip product lover, what can I say?
