Hot For Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid seems to be popping up everywhere at the moment. I still haven’t mastered how to pronounce it, but it’s a nice addition that ol’ hyaluronan. With the dewy-finished look not going anywhere anytime soon, this moisturising miracle has become the ‘it’ ingredient of the moment. Although the mention of the word ‘acid’ may leave some screaming over the hills, on the whole HA seems like a good skincare investment – naturally occurring in body tissues, but degrading over time it can old up to 1,000 x its own weight in water and helps to hydrate and support the skin. After riffling through my stash I’ve complied the Hyaluronic Acid addicts edit…

This Works is fast climbing my chart of lusted after brands. I’ve not been disappointed with anything I’ve slapped on my body from them so far. I’ve raved about the Perfect Look Skin Miracle before (post here), which contains Hyaluronic Acid, but the latest addition into my routine is their Perfect Skin Super Moisture*, which has wedged it’s way into my routine as a daytime moisturiser and coincidently is also packed with the stuff. Another new skincare addition is the much hyped Hydraluron, which caters as my biggest dose of Hyaluronic Acid out of the bunch, it’s also a favourite of whom I like to think of as my personal skincare guru Caroline Hirons. Now I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge difference since using this, but you know those wee little annoying dry patches that pop up around your nose or in your eyebrow from time to time? Well they’re a thing of the past since I’ve slathered this on as an evening serum. I will persist. I wasn’t surprise to see Sodium Hyaluronate (a salt version of Hyaluronic Acid that’s smaller in molecule size), in the list of ingredients for Origins Drink-Up Intensive Mask. My skin has never felt more plump and hydrated than after using this overnight bad-boy (post here).

And it’s not just topical skincare treats that HA has weaselled it’s way into, it also crops up in makeup products normally associated with mattifying the skin. The Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion* and By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder* both contain a heathly whack of it. And although I’m not too much of a powder person these days, a dusting of the By Terry down the centre of my face before a night out to keep everything in place is going pretty well for a grease-free finish without the moisture zapping feel usually associated with powers.

So it’s fair to say I’m getting a fair daily hit of Hyaluronic Acid. Slather me up baby!

I investigated hyaluronic acid after coming across Caroline Hirons’ blog too and went out and purchased Hydraluron after seeing her glowing review, and (touch wood I’m not jinxing myself here!) it’s totally improved my skin. I hardly have any breakouts any more and my skin just looks a lot more nourished and glowy, best buy in a long while for me! Love that woman, she’s saved my skin.

    Great post (: x

Could you possibly do a post on moisturisers, Anna? I find them the most confusing part of skincare actually, I have oily skin and all moisturisers just seem to be marketed towards dry skin. But oil doesn’t = moisture haha!! Would really appreciate your advice.

I love reading skin care posts and ones that involve Origins always get my attention! I’ve always had oily skin but it has recently completely changed and needed a lot more moisture so I’ve been googling away for weeks! I think after this much hype i will have to try the Hydraluron too!

Hi! I use a lot of those products and LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I have eczema so my skin is obviously sensitive and gets very dry when the seasons change but not this year! SO HAPPY! I was just wondering if the By Terry powder was ‘hydrating’? Obviously it can’t be like a moisturiser but I’ve been reading about it and that’s what it says…? Slightly confused. It would be ace to have a powder that doesn’t draw attention to problem areas though! Adore your blog :) xxx

It took me a couple of weeks to see hydraluron do much but now, I’m giving it a tentative thumbs up. To be fair, I only use it once a day. I’ve been lusting after the origins mask for a while and really need to look in to ‘This works’, I have yet to venture there.
