I’m pretty sure the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders take the trophy for most frenzy-inducing beauty launch of the year. Stock that flew off the shelves leading to a month-long manhunt to find one and a bevy of rave reviews that followed. Of course I caved and purchased the shade Diffused Light (almost planting a kiss on the Liberty counter girl when she handed it over); with Mood Light also finding its way into my stash a few weeks later. Sure I liked them. But with their launch coinciding with that of the CHANEL Les Beiges collection, I didn’t pay it my full attention, with Les Beiges becoming my new beauty beau.

Fast forward a few months down the line and now I get it. A need for long lasting makeup combined with a flawless application in Ruth’s video caused me to pick up my compact, dust it off and dust it on. And now it’s love. Mood Light is pretty (and has an air of the Bourjois Java Rice Powder about it, like I mentioned the other day), but it’s Diffused Light that has become a favourite. With an ability to set without becoming cakey, add  highlight without looking shimmering and somehow ramping redness down a few levels – it’s awesome. And I’m not sure there’s anything else on the market like it. £38 from Space NK. Diffused Light – I’m sorry that it took a while to warm up between us. My apologies.

After seeing so many raving reviews about I am sorely tempted to buy it but it’s just so darn expensive! I might give the Bourjois Java Rice Powder a go first and see what I think of that. Thank you for suggesting a dupe for those of us on a student budget!

The reviews seem mixed; most rave, but a good number are disappointed. Since I am not near a counter to try, I shall not be buying.

  • Brianna

I still don’t get it and I DO dust on/dust off. :( Maybe it’s because I have really oily skin, but this does absolutely nothing for me. Huge waste of $45 for me, which is extremely disappointing since everyone in the blogger world LOVES it.

I’ll take it off your hands if you no longer use it, xxx

Sounds amazing, I always swatch in in store and wonder why it is so hyped, I guess its one of those things that you have to try on your face in order to appreciate it! :)

This has always been on my list , but as you say as the mad rush to buy when it first came out, I couldnt find it I sort of gave up on it, as i was in the middle of some major studying at the time. However as you’ve persuaded me , I will have to make this my mission this year to locate and buy before christmas, wish me luck!

They’re great, yes! But don’t carry ‘em around in your bag too much – that’s something I learned to my sorrow when half of mine broke. Still using what was left, though, and surprisingly, half of it’s still intact except for the ever growing dent from my using it every day. I LOVE it!

Really want to give these a go but the price tag just stops me from handing over my debit card every time. I’ve heard a lot of people say the cost-per-use works out really well though so I might invest after all! x
