Two factors resulted in a brush haul recently. One – all my brushes were dirty and the thought of washing them was enough to make me groan out loud (you’ll be pleased to know that I realised how pathetic that sounded, man-ed up and completed my brush laundry). Two – I realised that I hadn’t purchased a new brush in a while; they’re not something that I indulge in too regularly. I’ve got quite an edited stash compared to some and I like it that way, only purchasing brushes that add something to the pack and more often than not I’ve heard good whisperings about. This haul is made up of one recommendation and two spur of the moment, ‘gawd they feel spectacularly soft on the back of my hand, I need them’ purchases. I’ll let you in on the deats…

Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush – £30 – from Selfridges. This is the one that goes against my brush brief of ‘adding something to the pack’ as it reminds me very much so of the Real Techniques Buffing Brush, but with a bit more firmness. I’ve been using that one for years and with no complaints, but with it on its last legs I thought it was time to try something new which is where this Bobbi Brown offering comes in. Dense enough to distribute full-on foundations, but with enough give to blend out a tinted moisturiser I’m impressed with this one so far. The short handle means I don’t donk it on the mirror when I get close up and makes it easier to travel with, plus I reckon this will be a good one for packing on the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural when I’m having a good skin day.

Bobbi Brown Sheer Powder Brush – £30 – from Selfridges. Man is this brush soft. Lily has been going on about it for months. Every time I go and visit she raves and swishes it on the back of my hand to feel just how soft it is so it was bound to happen at some point. I’ve got a few powder brushes, but none as silky in texture nor as small as this. I picture me using this for blush when I’m feeling a bit of my ol fave Tarte Tipsy, or powder when I want a light dusting on my T-zone. So far I’ve used it for the later and it works beautifully. Lightly imparting a veil of coverage right where I want it. I sense quite a love affair happening with this one.

Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush – £26 – from Space NK. If you’ve ever struggled with the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage then this is the brush for you. I purchased that stuff ages ago on good authority from the Queen of Concealing herself Lisa Eldridge and while it works wonders for pinpoint pimple concealing, I could never work out why/how so many people sung its praises for dark circle cover-up. When chatting to a Space NK gal about my woes, she offered up this as a solution and now I can see how the Secret Camouflage is a cover-all solution. The flimsy fibres pick up the smallest amount of product and work in the product almost invisibly. A great option for any concealer or formulas that have been a pain in the derriere in the past.

I am always a little bit confused if it comes to brushes. Why are they so expensive ? Or maybe in UK £30 for a brush isn’t much ? xx

    • https://esrscreatives.wordpress.com/ Emily

i think it’s alot of money, I think the point of buying an expensive one is that you will not have to buy another one for years though. its just finding the money in the first place!

I have had a No7 blush brush for nearly 10 years now and that is only just beginning to come off its handle, the actual brush itself is fine though. I know it wasn’t a high end brush but I am glad its lasted.

The Bobbi Brown brush looks great, have you tried the Hakuhodo brushes? They are the softest brushes ever and apply face powders like a dream- slightly higher price point but a brilliant investment for your stash x

Do you prefer the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush over the Real Techniques’ Buffing Brush? I didn’t know BB brushes were that soft, need to look into them!
