A few weekends ago I hopped on a ridiculously short plane journey to Edinburgh for a surprise weekend away booked by yours truly for my Boyfriend’s birthday. I’ve never ventured to the land of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties before (Neeps – not Nips as I was previously referring to them much to the amusement of any Scot I spoke to), but you know what? I’d happily visit one of the coldest places on Earth I’ve ever been to again (thank the lord for my Uniqlo Heat Tech layer). My Instagram documents our two day whirlwind, mostly culinary, tour pretty well, though if you ever find yourself in those parts may I highly recommend 99 Hanover Street and Bramble for cocktails, Restaurant Mark Greenaway for a fancy, but delicious dinner, The Gardener’s Cottage for one of the best 7-course meals you’ve ever had (so good – I even wrote my first ever Trip Advisor review), Urban Angel for breakfast and Edinburgh Castle for an afternoon of culture. Makeup-wise it was the same story as always; I took a shedload and used very little…

My base was seen to by the duo of the CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation in B10 and the Louise Young LY34 Super Foundation Brush. I was in weekend-off mode so was in the mood for a sheer wash of coverage that I could get on in record time and these two fitted that bill perfectly. For concealer, I may have slipped into Jenner’s department store on the recommendation of one lovely lass on Twitter and purchased the Guerlain Precious Light in 1. I have no idea what possessed me to purchase this, but I was looking for a mate for my Guerlain Lingerie de Peau and this is what the MUA suggested. It’s one of those twist, brush-on illuminator/concealer-in-one jobbies and I’m impressed. It has a touch more coverage than others I’ve tried, brightens and can double up as a highlighter. I scribbled it all over the centre of my face and blended in with my fingers. I did add a touch of the Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Cream in Iced Gold to my non-existent cheekbones too because I’ve recently rediscovered my love for it. And blush-wise I went without it – the wind and rain beating down on my face did the job for me.

For eyes I’ve become sort of obsessed with the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette. It’s a bit of a marmite one and I can see its flaws – the shadows can crease without primer and the shimmer shades are a tad on the glittery side – but the matte colours? Well it’s love. I spent the weekend mixing them to create a light wash over the lids for the day, then turning the smoke up for the evening. Lashes were taken care of by the L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara and brows the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette. And for lips I kept it simple with the By Terry Baume de Rose because they were so dry after the weather walloping they got. Though I did slick on the Tom Ford Lipstick in Wild Ginger in the evenings, but more on that another day.

Edinburgh – in the famous words of Arnie….’I’ll be back‘. And this time, with even more layers of clothing.
