IMG_3197 Revlon ColourStay

When I first spotted the Revlon Colourstay Moisture Stains online, they well and truly wet my beauty whistle; sleek packaging, a bright assortment and all with an affordable price tag. A YSL Glossy Stain-like product with an added staining quality, I liked the promise of longevity. So when two shades landed on my doorstep they took approximately two minutes to go from jiffy bag to my lips. I had a feeling straight away, but I’ve persisted and given them a longer and fairer test to make sure and the verdict is in…

I have to say that I wasn’t as bowled over with these as I first expected to be. Aesthetics-wise, they’re on point. The clear square-cut tube and black wand look oh so sophisticated and the actual applicator is a nice shape that’s slightly tapered at the end to get right into the corners of your pout. The shades too I liked. India Intrigue (on the left – apologies for the slightly moody looking photos, I thought I was ‘smi-zing’ – I was wrong), is a little more purple-ly that I go for whereas Barcelona Nights (on the right) is a warm toned pinked that I felt perked things up nicely. But it’s the formula that I struggled with. Things were just a bit streaky. One coat left the colour patchy and though a second evened it out slightly, I could still see areas where the formula hasn’t built up to full force. The layering meant that there was a fair amount of product on my lips and then things started to feel weirdly numb. It’s worth pointing out that I’m an über sensitive soul and this is not the first product in the world to result in a bizarre ‘got to take it off now’ feeling. So alas, the testing period was concluded and a Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain was reached for instead.

If your lips aren’t as wimpy as mine and you’ve got the patience for a touch-up or two then you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to wait long for these as they should be sprouting up on counters over the next few weeks with a price tag of £7.99. But sensitive gals, you have been warned.

Not too sure how I feel about these.. I can’t see myself buying them but they do look lovely on you!

They do look just a bit too glossy and wet and poised to migrate all over everywhere. Pass!

They look awesome on you! Thx for the review – love that they are always completely honest!

  • http://www.thevelvetblack.co.uk/ Alice Young

I really like the packaging of these, but I can’t deal with glosses, and lipsticks where you have to coat a million layers on, it feels too gross on my lips and I have to take it off

I’ve tried these too and had a similar experience – they were just kinda ‘bitty’ and didnt go on smoothly like I hoped they would. They look great but the formula needs a bit of work. I’ll stick the the other alternatives out there for now.

Wow what stunning shades! Great post Anna! xx

They’ve already appeared at the Boots in Meadowhall, I bought four and found he best way to apply them is in thin layers not the full dose the wand gives and leave it to warm up to body temperature and they should go on more evenly.

  • Renata

I didn’t like the colours. Too bright for my taste. They didn’t bring a single nude, other than London posh, which doesn’t look good. Disappointed.

I bought India Intrigue and Parisian Passion the other night and I actually really like them. India Intrigue is a bit patchy on the first coat but a second evens things out nicely. Parisian Passion is my favourite though, the stain was still on my lips when I woke up this morning.

The formula to me is like the Dior Fluid Sticks (I have 2 of those). I prefer the Dior formula wise as it’s a bit less patchy, but shade wise I prefer the Revlon.

It’s too bad your lips were sensitive to these; I really like them! I’m too lazy to reapply so I like the fact that I can pop this on once and have the resulting stain as a backup, of sorts. Cannes Crush is a really nice flushed, peachy shade. Definitely my favourite from the bunch x

I actually really loved these! I also got two colors – Barcelona Nights and Shanghai Sizzle – and they both went on great, no patchy issues. I have horrible dry lips most of the time, but after a good thick lip balm as i usually do the night before, these went on great the next morning. I did find two coats were necessary to even it all out and get more opacity, but after that i was good to go for a good few hours, and when the shine faded a nice stain was left. Lip products are always very personal though (just like mascaras) but the colors are so lovely, it doesn’t hurt to try them out!
