During the warmer months I like to keep things quite bronzed and glowy on the cheeks. Yes I buy into that golden goddess thing every darn year. But when the cooler months roll around I settle into a more pinched cheek affair; embracing my wind-slapped rouged apples and even adding a little pink blush to eke them out even more. The upcoming months are just a handful of which when my ruddy flush is encouraged. So here’s my rosy cheek edit: all kinds of textures, all kinds of tones – it’s time to ramp up the rose…

The newest addition to my rose ranks comes from Rimmel and it’s their Stay Blushed Liquid Cheek Tint in Pop of Pink. This is probably the most coral-like of the bunch so is a good starting point for those wishing to ease themselves in to more autumnal cheek choices. When dispensed it begins as a mousse, but after a minute or so it dries down into a stain and does not budge. Work fast. You have been warned.

Cream-wise there are two that I tend to reach for Bourjois’ Blush Exclusif* and YSL’s Créme de Blush in 9*. Both are similar in texture – a little bit moussey and blend out über easily to a matte finish – though the Bourjois offering is much cooler and paler in tone. As the two are pretty pigmented I tend to dot and blend these on with my fingers, then go back in with my foundation brush to tone them down a tad and leave the finish seamless.

The most fool-proof of the bunch comes from Bobbi Brown (as worn in the picture above). Their Blush in question is Pastel Pink which is in fact a very pretty pastel pink – no surprises there. The reason why this is a good place to start if you’re a rose wearing newbie is that the formula is so sheer it’s practically impossible to be heavy handed with it. No Aunt Sally cheeks to be seen here. Just a healthy flush; this is the one for all your English roses out there. Speaking of Bobbi, I dropped by their counter not that long ago to have a lesson in the art of the smokey eye. I’ll relay my notes I made to you tomorrow…

I love MAC’s blush in Dame, it is the perfect blush to get that just pinched look! All these colours are really pretty too!

  • Gita Bončina

Lovely pink shades. I’m currently using the one from MAC and I’m quite happy with it :) !

  • Charlotte MacDonald-Gaunt

The YSL shade is absolutely stunning. I’m not very good with cream blushes but the shade is so pretty I’ll just have to get over that and what a good excuse to start practising more :o ). Xx

  • Seave

Even in colder months, I keep my Coral shades as I think rosy tones does not really suit my olive skin tone.

    My favorites blushes:
    - Chanel Joue Contrast in Malice – Unique color shade
    - Laura Mercier Blush creme in Sunrise. The texture is so nice and the result very natural
    - MAC Peachykeen: looks like the Nars Orgasm but better!

I used to fear cream blushes to death up until i got a bit bold and owned them. I tend to get off beat with fingers but using a hard brush makes it super easy and it glides effortlessly. YSL has been my fav. this season

I can’t really wear pink blush with my usual LM illuminating tinted moisturiser as it just emphasises my redness but paired with foundation? Might have to give it a go.

  • pinkblush

The bobbi brown one is the very shade I wore on my wedding day and reason I named my little blog! xXx

  • Catrin

I’m recently getting back into blushes, I swatched Blush Exclusif and it just looked a little too pale for me.

That blusher is a really lovely colour on you! I tend to go for more creamy formulas as powdery blushers tend to not settle well on my skin.

  • dominique

The bobbi brown one looks beautiful on you! do you have any problems with the product itself? Someone said that it’s ‘very dry and stiff’ and that kindof stopped me from buying it! Your photo actually makes me want to buy it again xx

  • Edel

    Your makeup looks so pretty

  • Pink Elephant Blog

I quite like the Bourjois Blush Exclusif, although I’d say it’s one that a lot of people will not get on with… Bobbi Brown blushes are my absolute favourites, such flattering shades!! x

  • Jane

What’s the point of showing the rimmel one without showing what the product is like? Can’t tell anything from outside of a tube. I used to enjoy this blog you used to take better pictures and used to actually reply to comments. Yours is the only blog I look at that has no mobile layout and it won’t even read through blogger. It is a ball ache to read and the content isn’t as good anymore

  • Océane D

The bobbi brown one is stunning.

  • Emma

    so pretty, great post!

Mousse blushes are awesome, I’ll have to check out the YSL one.

  • http://acoldwintersday.wordpress.com/ Claudia

I think it’s funny how everyone talks about this healthy flush… I personally don’t think there’s anything healthy-looking about pink blush. it just doesn’t look natural – it’s more like you’re sick with a fever ;)
