I’ve been noticing a trend. There’s one very quick and easy way to spot my favourite, favourite foundations among a sea of face bases. If I really like it, then I’ve got two of ‘em. Simples. One shade for my Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe-ed up months, the other for when I’m embracing the pale and a customised mix of the two for awkward between shade days. I’ve rambled on about the trio in question many times before so I’ll spare you the raves but think of this as more of a shade reference exercise of the HG bad boys in my collection.
The base that I reach for on my worst skin ‘cover me up baby’ days is YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation – B10 is my winter wearer, B30 is my summer shade. It’s medium to high coverage, with just the right amount of dew to perk things up; I tend to throw it on with fingers for a softer finish. When longevity is my prime concern it’s a no brainer. Out comes Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation - yes that old chestnut. I use 6 on more tanned occasions and 4 on the less so (FYI the .5 or .75 shades pull pinker and round numbers more yellow). You know the deal by now, this stuff does not budge, looks great on camera and in pictures all while looking like it’s not even there. Then we have what I dub my ‘weekend foundation’ – I don’t think there’s any other foundation that I even go near on my two days of rest. It’s CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua and my two shades are B20, the darker of the two and B10. I’ve shrugged off this formula in the past, but since rediscovering it a few months back I’ve had to eat my words. Yes, the staying power isn’t fab, but it fills the gap between a tinted moisturiser and foundation and has the whole ‘no makeup, makeup’ thing down. And we all know how I feel about that.
