I’ve been noticing a trend. There’s one very quick and easy way to spot my favourite, favourite foundations among a sea of face bases. If I really like it, then I’ve got two of ‘em. Simples. One shade for my Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe-ed up months, the other for when I’m embracing the pale and a customised mix of the two for awkward between shade days. I’ve rambled on about the trio in question many times before so I’ll spare you the raves but think of this as more of a shade reference exercise of the HG bad boys in my collection.

The base that I reach for on my worst skin ‘cover me up baby’ days is YSL Youth Liberator Serum FoundationB10 is my winter wearer, B30 is my summer shade. It’s medium to high coverage, with just the right amount of dew to perk things up; I tend to throw it on with fingers for a softer finish. When longevity is my prime concern it’s a no brainer. Out comes Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation - yes that old chestnut. I use 6 on more tanned occasions and 4 on the less so (FYI the .5 or .75 shades pull pinker and round numbers more yellow). You know the deal by now, this stuff does not budge, looks great on camera and in pictures all while looking like it’s not even there. Then we have what I dub my ‘weekend foundation’ – I don’t think there’s any other foundation that I even go near on my two days of rest. It’s CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua and my two shades are B20, the darker of the two and B10. I’ve shrugged off this formula in the past, but since rediscovering it a few months back I’ve had to eat my words. Yes, the staying power isn’t fab, but it fills the gap between a tinted moisturiser and foundation and has the whole ‘no makeup, makeup’ thing down. And we all know how I feel about that.

I’ve never been a big foundation wearer, I didn’t like the way it looked on my skin but maybe that’s cause I didn’t have to correct one. Hhhmmm…I wonder if these foundations come in my shade?

Definitely a great way to tell which foundations hold a special place in your heart! I recently discovered and started loving Vitalumiere Aqua and I really need to try the Armani LSF :)

I’ve wanted to try the Chanel foundation for quite a while but have always been sceptical having combination skin! Seems great though! X.

The same goes for my foundation stash, if I own more than one… it must be a good one. I am still dying to try out Luminous Silk.

  • Brynee

I’m a 4 in the beloved luminous silk but its summertime here in Aus and I need to mix in a darker shade. I was thinking 5 but is it just me or does it lean a little pink? Is that why you go for 6? Xx

I really want to try the Chanel foundation!

Would love a review of Burberry foundations if you ever buy the bases from this range. I would have to order online without seeing it but love the natural look of Burberry makeup. I keep looking at the palest shades but can’t find any swatches or a sample service :( trying Hourglass tinted moisturiser atm expensive but you only need a tiny dot. It’s thicker texture than most tinted moisturisers.

If Burberry had similar to NARS Siberia I would love to try it

Muchas veces es la única forma de conseguir el tono exacto de la piel, sobre todo para pieles cetrinas.
