My favourite types of bases are the barely-there ‘I woke up like ‘dis’ ones. And no I’m not retiring my Beyoncé leant phrase anytime soon as it just sums up my attitude to make up perfectly. I’m currently sat on the floor with all of my light coverage foundations/tinted moisturisers/BB’s/CC’s surrounding me and I thought why not cobble them together in one gigantic fresh skinned edit. I haven’t discriminated between the categories of base here at all; if it’s more on the light side of things and makes my skin look nice and even, well slept and glowy then it’s in. I’ve given them a score out of 10 for all-roundedness, but don’t take too much notice – I just thought I’d bolt that on the end just so you can distinguish which ones I really love…
Bourjois Happy Light Foundation – £11.99 from Boots – I use No.50. This is one of the few light coverage foundations I own. It can definitely be built up to more of a medium finish, but gives just the right amount of coverage for daytime and isn’t too matte nor dewy in finish. My score: 8/10.
CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Skin Perfecting Makeup – £32 from Selfridges – I use B10 for winter and B20 for summer. I love this stuff. If I had to pick a base to wear everyday for the rest of my life, I reckon this would be it. It just melts in the face and literally looks just like skin. My score: 10/10.
Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser – £58 from Space NK – I use Nude for winter and Glow for summer. If you’re after polished skin that’s on the sheeny side of things then this is your guy. It has the coverage of a medium foundation with the glow of a BB. Nice. My score: 9/10.
Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation – £33 from FeelUnique – I use 100. This is probably the lightest textured base I own, so if you don’t really count yourself as the foundation type then this is one to try. It definitely fits into the lighter finish category, but leaves things looking über natural. My score: 8/10.
Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme – £30 from Escentual – I use 002 (but could do with 001 for winter). In terms of BB’s this is my favourite one I’ve tried, probably because it’s got decent coverage and is slightly more matte in finish which I don’t tend to gravitate towards, but it means that the longevity is a step up from others. My score: 9/10.
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint – £29 from Cult Beauty – I use Pearl. If you want glow, then girl here it is. When swatched there looks to be a terrifying amount of shimmer in this, but when applied directly to the face it just comes off as skin that is seriously hydrated. My score: 8/10.
Jouer Matte Moisture Tint – £29 from Cult Beauty – I use Linen. It’s tough to find a light coverage, matte base, but this is the best I’ve tried. Not chalky or heavy it coats the skin with a light dose of shine-free tint. Personally my favourite way to wear this is with the blob of the aforementioned in with it. My score: 8/10.
Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Tinted Balm – £38 from Space NK – I use SB02 for winter and SB03 for summer. This was one of the first light coverage based I tried and I loved it at the time, but compared to my more recent discoveries it just doesn’t quite compare. A little heavy and difficult to blend, though the finish is spot-on glow-wise. My score: 5/10.
Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser – £33.50 from Space NK – I use Bisque. In terms of formulas billed as tinted moisturisers this is my all-time favourite. It’s pretty thick, but that means that it brings the coverage and the finish is just perfection and looks sheeny without the grease. My score: 9/10.
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser – £29 from Space NK – I use Alaska. I’d say that this is a good one for more drier skinned gals. It feels the most ‘moisturiser’ of all the tinted moisturisers I’ve tried with the finish being very nourishing with a light dose of colour. My score: 7/10.
Resultime by Collin Multi-Corrective CC Cream – £35.50 from Cult Beauty – I use Natural. A recent discovery that when I first applied I let out an audible ‘wow’. Everything just looked almost airbrushed, but so natural. With good lasting power too it’s the best CC I’ve tried. My score: 9/10.
