We’ve all been there – the morning after the night before that included one too many mulled wines. I have to say I’m drawing on past experiences that occurred many moons ago in my Uni years here as it’s not all that often that I indulge in a tipple these days. Though it’s not the booze that gets me, it’s the late nights now. When my usual bedtime (*cough* 10pm *cough*) isn’t respected I wake up with the same muzzy headed feelings I used to get after VK-filled night. Classy. So seeing as NYE is just round the corner, I thought I’d put together a selection of products that I employ to make me feel human again and ready to face the world the morning after the night before…

A thorough prep begins before you hit the hay on the wild night in question with a necking of Faust’s Potions Asleep formula. Glug the Awake one in the morning and that should help to re-balance all things lost and gained internally. It sounds like bumf but I promise this stuff really does what it says on the tin. A Peppermint Tea also helps to make things a little more yay and less neigh in your belly. When you wake up I would suggest a bath or shower happens pronto. If tub time is more your thing the zingy scent of Aromatherapy Associates Revive Bath and Shower Oil should perk you up in no time, but if you’re jumping in the shower try the Boots Botanics Rebalance Restoring Cream Body Wash which kills two birds with one stone with it’s surprisingly hydrating texture.

Then it’s time to clean yo’ face. Go ahead with your usual routine but there are two things to really consider here; glow-givers and eye cream. To add back in that sheen either mix in an illuminating primer with your moisturiser or plump for a radiance-boosting serum; I’m pretty into the Orico Transcend Marine Radiance Serum at the moment. For eye creams there’s plenty to pick from, but right now I’m using Sarah Chapman’s Skinesis Eye Recovery which keeps things nice and moisturised under eye. Speaking of eyes, they’ll thank you if you treat them to a few eye drops. One of the most squeamish, yet rewarding beauty rituals there is.

Hair-wise I’d recommend a quick rinse and rough blow-dry but if time is of the essence then just go wild with a spritz (or ten) of dry shampoo. Bumble and Bumble’s Prêt-à-Powder is a good’un and it adds volume, making it look like you had loads of time on the clock this morning.

Ok now the makeup. I usually vote to skip it completely – embrace the sallow skin and baggy eyes – the souped-up skincare should have helped somewhat, but if there’s no way of escaping a bit of slap then here’s what I’d suggest. Keep it light and dewy on the base; Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser always does the trick. Open up your eyes with a crimp and curl from a kick-ass eyelash curler and coat them in many, many coats of your usual mascara of choice, personally I’m into the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Waterproof tube of lash-building goodness right now. Then finish with a quick slick of a moisturising balm with a tint of blue-toned colour – Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 5 fits that bill. Put the makeup down and step away from the table.
