I can’t say I’ve ever owned a pair of ripped jeans before. Formerly full-length pairs that I’ve mauled into various guises of denim bottoms – pedal pushers, ridiculous bum-skimming shorts – yes, but purposefully knee-torn ones? No. This is mainly due to the fact that shredded knees come with connotations of coolness; a trait I most definitely do not possess. But then I spotted a pair on Whistles. And armed with the Grazia 25% off code? Well that changed everything…

There is something about that site that puts a spell on me and makes me believe that I need a pair of flamingo emblazoned silk trousers in my life. Don’t ask. However it was the Distressed Maysa Skinny Jean that I succumbed to, voucher in hand and with a sliver of doubt in my mind that I’d ever be able to actually pull them off. But you know what? I think I can. Firstly they make a nice alternative to my usual uniform of black Topshop Leighs. Secondly they have that whole ‘dress up, dress down’ quality going on that every single piece I pick up from Whistles seems to magically have woven into them. Paired with pointy courts and a strappy top for the evening or clomppy boots and a knit for the day are my favourite ways to incorporate them. They’re comfy, not too high (nor low) in cut and the fact that they’re only flesh showing on the knee means you can be tactical in your shaving routine.

I’m rather enjoying my jeans with a badass edge. They serve as poignant reminder in my wardrobe that perhaps the denim mauling is best left to others. #PedalPusherProblems

You have legs to die for. And ripped jeans – so incredibly cool.

  • Sophie ♥

Legs for days! These ripped legs look chic without being too much of an overkill.

You look utterly perfect in those jeans.

Your legs are looking skinnier Anna! And the jeans compliment this xxx

These are so cute, especially with those heels! The only ripped jeans I own are just ripped because I’ve owned them for 5 years now, but this is definitely making me want to go out and buy some!

I want those jeans almost as much as I want your legs! That wasn’t meant to sound creepy :)

  • Sarah

Great find! Spot on for the whole dress up & down thing. Quick qst, do they size the same as Topshop Leighs in terms of 26,27,28 etc?? xxx

  • LMISMINSKY

Loving the idea of ‘tactical shaving’!

  • Ella

I had a pair of blue topshop Leighs that were the best thing since sliced bread – they fitted flawlessly, the colour was absolutely perfect (neither too dark for the spring wardrobe or too light for my winter pieces) and they went. with. EVERYTHING. However, one offer to help at my 5 year old niece’s Clown Town birthday party changed it all; two massive rips on each knee now graced the once-perfect blue denim. Raging, I threw the jeans into my charity bin bag as soon as I got home. Big mistake, now apparently ripped jeans are a ‘thing’ – moral of the story is, don’t throw away clothes when you’re angry, and topshop Leighs are flimsy and rubbish (although take a look at my 6-piece collection and you might think otherwise).

Whistles stuff looks really nice when you wear it and it always makes me want their stuff, but I think their website is awful, the way the models stand gives the clothes no shape at all, the clothes look loads better on the asos site. I think it’s an ‘effect’ that they are going for but it’s awful!
    Anyway, gorgeous jeans!

  • London Bride

I DIY’d my own pair last week (scalpel, cheese grater & a pencil, easiest custom clothing ever!) and had no end of stick as I’m the ‘other’ side of 30 so perhaps should know better, but the fact that Whistles has these makes me quite smug. Though I should say you definitely wear them better than I do, the fit is superb (and I like that the knees rips are different, identical rips are so not badass.)

  • http://thefashion-six.blogspot.co.uk Emma Rose

Oh I do love a pair of ripped jeans but they are a pain when you go to put them on and you keep putting your foot out the various holes.. Hmm I hope that’s not just me.. awkward

I am loving this trend. I had a pair of black (faded) jeans that were on the way into the trash but I decided why not purposely rip them up by the knee. I use them mainly for daytime, paired with my chunky knitted sweater and boots. I love that.

P.s. I am hosting a giveaway on my Feel Inspired Blog.

Hi Vivianna! I’ve been reading your blog since the beginning, but I never commented! You are one of my favorite blogge to read ; your writing style always makes me feel you are actually talking to us! I have a little question about sizing. I’m usually UK10 in Zara, would you say it equals perfectly to 28 in whistles jeans? ( i live in canada, so it would help me to have your advice) If it is not too indiscrete, what size are you? thank you for you time!
