Overall my hair is definitely more on the greasy side of proceedings. On the one hand that’s great as I never really have to suffer with straw-like looking ends and douse my mop in oil, however it does mean that my hair can turn into a greasy mess very quickly. I generally wash my hair every two days, but recently it had been looking oily after 1 day – I was suffering from product build-up, so today I brought in the big guns..

A great shampoo that I have been using recently to give some volume and clarity to my hair is the Phyto Volumising Shampoo (I got mine from FeelUnique). This is the most liquid-y shampoo ever, it’s basically the consistency of water so it’s a pain to apply – but once you get the hang of it it works a treat. I find this so clarifying on my greasy mop, that it even extends my hairwash frequency to three days instead of two! The final piece of my non-greasy hair puzzle is the Ojon Full Detox Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Spray*. This helps to give some serious lift at the roots of my hair, whist helping to pro-long my hair for the extra day!

So there are my ‘Greasy Hair SOS’ products, so you have any that you reach for to extend your hair for that ‘extra day’?

interesting shampoo choice! swear your blog was just written for me since we have the same hair and skin, love it! xx

Loving the sound of the Ojon Full Detox Rub-Out Dry Cleansing spray – it’s just gone one my list to try out – thanks hun :) xx

Wow! Never knew you could use washing up liquid on your hair. My hair is oily too, so much so I actually have given up trying to treat it and just wash it every day using pH balanced/gentle enough for everyday use shampoos (my fave is Aussie Mega – smells AMAZING) Guilty confession there! xx

  • Zoedenby

The Charles Worthington Balancing Act shampoo and conditioner are good for greasy hair too, my hair is greasy it drives me mad! I’ve tried everything in the past, the balancing act is good and on offer at the mo for 2 for £6 and it’s normally £5.19 I think? It’s not a miracle cure but means I don’t need to wash my hair every day!! Great post as always, thank you xxxxx

I’ve got quite dry hair but if it ever gets too much product build up I use Head and Shoulders, the one for greasy hair. It makes your hair feel so so clean but I feel like it still looks after your scalp – fab! x

My hair has definitely been having a bit too much product build-up recently! I actually find the Head & Shoulders shampoos and conditioners are good for it – quite kind and gentle without being really greasy. Also I generally just try to use a teeny amount of conditioner rather than my usual huge blob!

please dont use fairy liquid as a shampoo!  i love you guys, but i think its really irresponsible of you and gems maquillage to suggest to your followers that they should use fairy liquid, a harsh surfactant not designed to come into prolonged contact with the skin, on their HAIR! its madness – first off, fairy liquid contains a cocktail of toxic chemicals, including formaldehyde, some of which are known to be carcinogenic.
second of all, it will strip your hair not ‘clarify’ it, completely. your hair needs some natural oils, and if youre stripping it so thoroughly your scalp will go into overdrive to try and replace those oils, leading to a more oily scalp in the long run.
i wouldnt be suprised if people came out with rashes and scalp irritations as a result of using such a harsh cleaning product on their hair… so you should do your research before suggesting such a thing!
sorry anna, i didnt mean to rant, i do love your blog and videos, i just wanted to alert you.

Haha, glad it worked! sometimes you have to try seemingly odd things like this to find a winner. I don’t tend to suffer from greasy hair (at the dry end of the spectrum if I’m honest) but when it does get a bit greasy feeling, I use a fw sprays of dry shampoo xx

Sometimes the simplest of products work the best! How funny :) . Good ol’ washing up liquid!

Thanks for the comment hun, but I did do research of my own before writing a post on this, as I was aware that this wasn’t a usual thing to use. I’m not a haircare professional as people reading this blog know and it is something that I have personally found that works for me. As I wrote in the post it’s not something that I recommend doing frequently, and I also say to use a tiny tiny amount to dilute the product x

    • Sara

Fairy liquid has a key ingredient that is also in most common shampoos – Sodium laureth sulfate. So by essentially diluting the fairy liquid it’s nearly the same thing.

  • Nicola

Great tips! I don’t really suffer from greasy hair, but product build up makes it feel like that.

Talc Powder! It’s basically what is in dry shampoo’s. You need to get the technique right and give your hair just a fine dusting but it works a treat!

I also use Rusk Sensories Clarifying Shampoo which is amazing for removing product build up but it’s gentle enough for regular use. I have greasy hair and I find I can go three ‘good hair’ days plus an extra one with it not looking so hot. It is seriously amazing.

I use Batiste and like it.

I stand by old faithful — baby powder!  I reviewed a couple weeks ago, but the short version is that it adds soooo much volume to my dark, Asian hair.  It cuts through sooo much grease and doesn’t leave a white cacst and it’s so inexpensive!

I have the same problem! I had to train my hair because it got greasy after one day of washing and its quite bad to wash your hair every day! I love the tresemme dry shampoo its a life saver! xxx

  • drivelhead1807

I am currently using Batiste dry shampoo to extend the shelf life of my hair in between washes, but have heard really good things about the Ojon one so will probably try that next. Yesterday I was getting my hair done & noticed that Tigi make a dry conditioner! It’s not something I’ve ever heard of before & am very tempted to go back and give it a try.

  • laurabrice

My hair is like this too and I started using the bumble and bumble ‘sunday’ shampoo, it is amazing to use once a week (hence the name hah) and it makes a huge difference to the amount of times I have to wash my hair during the week and I get barely any build up now! x

My favorite dry shampoo at the moment is the Dove dry shampoo. Really fine powder and comparable to the klorane brand (which I love!) but has a different scent that is thankfully not over-powering (*ahem* Suave dry shampoo!) If it’s available over there give it a try.

  • IndiByles

my fave dry shampoo is the tresemme one a-ma-zing!xxx

Love this post! I have so greasy hair, but usually I end up only using  Sunsilk’s dry schampoo and still have to wash my hair almost everyday. Time to buy I good schampoo like the phyto one!

  • Eleanor Baldry

God this makes so much sense! My hair is really long and gets greasy really quickly, i was thinking its my shampoo and conditioner but the thought of product buildup never crossed my mind! Definitely going to invest in something to solve the situation!

I found I Love Juicy shampoo by Lush very helpful for product build-up. It leaves my hair perfectly clean and also mattyfies it a bit so that it´s easier to manage:)

I’ve always suffered with greasy hair since I started secondary school! I had to wash my hair every morning before school, which just got soooo annoying.

My latest product for my greasy roots is -Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Morning After Dry Shampoo which I buy from boots at around £5-£6. and normally 2 for £7.50!! which is great!!

It has a lovely smell to it and leaves no white stains on your hair like talc or Batiste, which I used to use.

Definitely recommend this product, one of my go to products for my hair routine. Loves, Loves, Loves.
