The Weekend Post #21: Spot Zappers

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments on my latest makeup tutorial, you guys seriously rock! But please do be assured that that particular video was filmed on a good skin day, which happens once in a blue moon as today I am nursing a rather large boulder that’s erupted on my chin. Luverly. I have a few skincare saviours in my arsenal though that I deploy on occasions like today, so let’s have a chat about them…

One of my more recent purchases is the Aesop Control Gel, which I picked up when I had my crazy Aesop spree. In all honesty this is probably the most disappointing purchase, it feels sticky on the skin and I don’t find that it did anything to my spotty areas. Not showering it with a lot of praise here, but thought I’d mention it as a few people had asked what I thought about it, but it’s not really for me. However on the contrary, a sample that the Aesop lady gave me – the Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque has worked wonders and is something that I’m definitely going to pick up a full size of when I’m next in there. It’s a clay mask that I dab onto my spots with a cotton bud just to really target specific areas and leave it on for as long as I can (sometimes overnight, whoops), and then gently remove it with a warm muslin cloth. I find that it helps to bring all the gunk to the surface, calm the inflammation and speed up the whole healing process. A definite thumbs up for me! Something I’ve been using for a while is the gel-like Origins Super Spot Remover. This is a classic spot fighting formula packed with loads of anti-bacterial tea-tree and salicylic acid that gives a nice little sting when you apply it to the affected area. I did a review on it a while ago now (link here), and it’s still something that I like to shove on my spots overnight to kill them off a bit. Finally a product that’s better for when your whole face needs clearing up is the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair (full review here). I have the tiniest trickle of this left but save it for when my face seems congested and spots are cropping up everywhere; a layer of this all over after cleansing and toning seems to do the trick.

So there’s a run-down of my spot-fighting army. I would definitely recommend the combination of using the Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque as part of  your evening skincare routine with the Origins Super Spot Remover as an overnight treatment. That’s what seems to be moving on this gigantic red bobble on my face right now! Any spot-zapping tips that you have? What products do you rely on?

i love my origins spot remover because it actually does work! At first, the price puts me off a little bit but now i realised that it’s definitley worth the money and it lasts for so long aswell. As for the Estee Lauder night repair, i haven’t really seen any benefits of it clearing my skin, but it has improved the texture of it.
    Thanks for the review~x

I use tea tree oil on any blemishes and the la Roche Posey Effaclar Duo and astringent lotion to keep my skin clear. I get much fewer spots than I used to. xx

I just bought the origins spot remover yesterday on an origins spree! (thank’s to you!) can’t wait for it to arrive! :)
I’ve been using their out of trouble mask on spotty areas for a while now, it sounds a lot like the aesop mask but also helps with shine and resurfacing the skin and what not, I loves it!

I was really disappointed with the Aesop gel too :( Have the full size of the mask though and love it! Dr Nick Lowe spot gel works wonders too!

I am definitely keen to test the Aesop masque although I have not seen it in stores bar the website. Do you know of any stores that stock this other than Aesop itself?

Hi, loved the no foundation makeup tutorial! I was just wondering if you’d tried the Lancome Genifique serum as i’d heard it was better for young skin that the Estee Lauder Advanced night repair which is aimed at more mature skin?x

I use Lush’s Grease Lightning and I love it! I have skin like the sahara desert so literally just pop it on the spot(s) overnight and they’re basically non-existent in the morning! x

Love this post, might have to try these out! At the moment I just use a mixture of Sudocrem and Germolene! Though I do find the Origins Out of Trouble mask really helps my skin when I’m having a bad spot day! xx

I’ve been using the Aesop Chamomile Masque for a wee bit now and I remember the woman said it’s fine to leave it on overnight and I always find that works better. it’s a lovely product and I really recommend the full size. I don’t really find the Origins one does much for me, but the malin + goetz acne treatment is INCREDIBLE. I love it!

My skin is rubbish at the moment, and I swear by M+G acne treatment, and Clarins Lotus Oil when it gets a bit dry and of course Estee Lauder ANR :)  Lovely post as always x

Toothpaste on a spot over night is good on large spots. I use the origins and really like it too xo

Panoxyl Benzoyl Peroxide is good (can be bought over the counter from Boots) but should be used sparingly as it is quite strong and can dry out skin!

I’ve loved Liz Earle’s Spot On for a good few years now and couldn’t live without it! You just roll it onto spots and usually, by the next morning they’ve gone down completely. Definitely recommend it, it saw me through the worst of my teenage years! Not too expensive either :)

Have you tried this product, it is a drug store brand and I find it works pretty well. I won’t say that it is a miracle product, but as a three in one product I think it works great. Scrub, Mask and Cleanser all in one. They go for about $8-9 CAD. I’m not sure if they are available in the UK though.

Ooops the image didn’t show up for some ungodly reason. The product is Garnier 3-in-1 Wash Scrub Mask.

I’m so going to try the Origins Spot Remover. I’ve been having pretty good luck with my skin lately, but I know it’s only a matter of time before something pops up. Best to be prepared!

I would like so much to try Origins products. But it’s impossible ’cause any website who sell Origins don’t deliver in Belgium. So sad :-(
