The Weekend Post #43: Bedtime Beauty

Every night when I slip into bed at least another five minutes pass before I’m actually able to roll over and snooze. I may snuggle under my sheets with my skincare routine completed, but I still like to throw on my bedtime beauty bits that occupy my bedside table prior to me hitting up snoozeland. The products included mainly follow the mantra of ‘moisturise, moisturise, moisturise’ – cuticles, hands and lips all get the nourishing treatment and yes it is completely necessary for there to be four multi-tasking balms housed next to me…

There isn’t much rhyme or reason as to what gets slathered on first, but lets get started with those god damn brilliant multi-tasking balms – which are my number one bedside essential. Like I said I switch up between four: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, Lucas Pawpaw Ointment, By Terry Baume de Rose and Dr Hauschka Lip Balm* which works equally well on the cuticles as it does on the lips. The Lucas Pawpaw is a new addition so the juries still out, but the By Terry is my favourite out the bunch (I’m nearing the end of my second tub, my wallet weeps), however you get the most bang for your buck with the Elizabeth Arden, plus it stays around forever, I reckon I’ve had this tube kicking around for four years! Shhhhh. I apply them all to my lips, cuticles, elbows (I tend to save the pricey By Terry for the more glamourous task of a lip balm) whatever’s looking a little dry before bed and wake up super smooth. Being a bit of a lip balm freak of course four choices isn’t enough and the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm also cosies up in my product pouch. Another great multi-tasking treat is the Clarins Lotus Face Oil*, a few drops massaged into my face not only adds that extra drop of hydration to my routine, the herbal scent has me dozing off in no time. Finally I apply enough handcream to to moisturise a small army of crusty handed builders. I’m not too fussy with my choice, but the Diptyque Luxurious Hand Balm* is currently doing it’s thang.

Bedtime beauty routine completed it’s time for me to finally enter dreamland which I’ve been told leaves me laughing loudly in my sleep, hogging the bedcovers and headbutting whoever is sleeping next to me. I think it may be time for me to set up shop on the sofa ;)

I really need to do more for my bedtime routine. I only moisturize my hands about every three days or so and I know they need much more then that!

    Kindness is the best accessory,

I always apply the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm before bed, its so thick and moisturising it’s often still present in the morning! I usually spritz my face with a mild toner from lush like the tea tree water as well :)

I’ve just done a little body ‘audit’ in prep for my Christmas countdown. Hands and lips score bad so I’m going to concetrate on them over the next couple of weeks. I really wanted the By Terry for the lips but I just can’t afford it so I’ve got a lip scrub from Lush and Lanolips on standby. http://www.essjay23x.blogspot.com

I am exactly the same! At the minute I use a Betty Buff lip scrub, then my Nuxe lip balm, Burt’s Bees cuticle butter on cuticles (hands and feet!) Lush Lemony Flutter on my elbows and knees and my Antipodes Joyful hand cream. I like pampering before I go to sleep :) xo

I have the similar ‘inject moisture’ mantra before bed. Especially when it comes to my lips!

Have you tried the Dr. Hauschka Eye Balm yet? I use it for years now (I think for almost 6 years already) and couldn’t live without it! It’s very rich and leaves the under-eye area sooo smooth! I have really sensitive skin that tends to get quite red, especially after removing eye makeup – the Hauschka eye balm is my secret weapon, it works great. ;-)

Maybe I should try the mini pamper session bedtime technique. I really struggle to wind down and go to sleep, much to the annoyance of my boyfriend who has to put up with my late night not-so-scintillating conversation! I’ll tell him to buy me luxurious products if he wants an early night ;) Thanks for the inspiration – as always!

I never have enough space on my nightstand. They really should invent them bigger for women or something:)

I’ve tried to love the Lucas Paw Paw balm but I find it does nothing to moisturise and just sit on the skin like a film.
The By Terry is my favourite too!!

I swear by the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, but now I’m tempted to try the By Terry!

Anna, I can’t believe you have Lucas Pawpaw Ointment! An Australian holy grail product – you won’t find a girl without this red tube in her bag. Isn’t it fabulous?

Hi Vivianna! Lovely post, I really want to try the Clarins lotus oil! Speaking of bedtime products, there’s something I tried and reviewed recently by Aveda called “stress-fix concentrate” that I think you might really like! It has a very herbal scent :)

As an Aussie, I’m probably not supposed to say this, but – Lucas’ paw paw is just glorified Vaseline. Seriously. Read the ingredients list. Petrolatum is the first or second ingredient. I much prefer Eight Hour – but I think I have to check out the unscented version, as I’m near the end of my tether with the scent!

What the paw paw cream is really best for is mosquito bites (and rashes and whatever else). Definitely not my go to for moisturising though x
