Double Photo TestOne good thing about writing a blog is that it works like a diary, documenting my makeup menus from week to week and acting as a bit of a time capsule for my cosmetics tastes. Every now and again I like to take a peruse through – ignoring the crappy copy and ;) littered text – and see what I was sporting on my face back in the day. Old favourites are often rediscovered, some choices cringed at and the fact that I’m always going to be a neutral makeup gal is as bright as as day. Here’s a beauty blast from the past compared to a more recent offering…

23rd July 2011My Five Minute Face: Origins Vitazing Moisturiser, CHANEL Mat Lumiére Foundation in 40, Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand, MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium, Sleek Contour Kit in Medium, Dior Amber Diamond Highlighting Powder, L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara, MAC Lipstick in Myth.

3rd June 2013The Smudged-Out Smokey: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in 6, Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand, Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette, MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Eclair, L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara, MaxFactor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Pink.

Lessons learned from a trawl through the archives? L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara deserves a medal for outstanding service to my makeup bag, along with Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer. I need to repurchase Origins Vitazing. How did I ever think I could get away with MAC’s Myth on the lips!? Where has the Sleek Contour Kit gone? I need to dust it off and rediscover its awesomeness. And wow, I really did like to cake on the base. My daily face is definitely dwindling with a total of six products having been brought out to cover, contour and create glow two years ago, to just two a few weeks ago. Who knows perhaps in another two years I’ll just be cracking out a BB? Crazier things have happened…

I was like that at your age – I used to buy the best coverage chanel or clinique foundation and really plough it on topped off with some powder. Now my skin ten years later looks better with well buffed in porefessional, a dusting of a powder foundation and the blush/bronze. I look more healthy, natural and it’s not as aging.

That’s what i always think, where did it go? I swear i loose half my makeup over time. And i am so with you on the Telescopic, i have been in love with it since my friend recommended it to me. I hear it’s looking to be discontinued, so have 3 or so stocked so far. I use to boots points bonuses, you know the ones you get in the post, spend over £15 receive 500 advantage card points. I have over 2000 points now, so I’m going to save them for something special.

    Went a little off topic…

I’ve only been blogging for about 5 months but even in that time I’ve noticed how much my choices have changed! I do love the fact you can look back and laugh at some questionable make up you purchased!

I think looking back like this because it is sort of a testament to how well your skin care routine is! The better skincare routine, the less coverage bases you need. Love the idea of a blog being a diary it is very true! helloiammariam.com

oh gosh – going through my old posts would be interesting – I used to work with a 5 year-old camera! Whoops. In terms of makeup, you’d probably find that my preferences have shifted from mostly drugstore and some high end products to mostly high end and some drug store products. (bahaha as I typed that I realized how pretentious it sounds) But as i’ve gotten more into makeup, I’ve realized what I need to spend on, and what I can save on.

I can definitely relate with you, I used to cake on my base too with heavy duty foundation and set it all with powder foundation too >__<. Hahah you think myth on the lips is bad? I used to full on just slap on the stick concealer as my 'lipstick'!
