While the fact that it’s August is great and everything, I’m not gonna lie that actually I’m pretty excited for September. I’ve been lucky enough to do a fair bit of travelling this year, but in terms of completely relaxing, internet-free, switch-off and just read magazines on the beach time? Yeah, that hasn’t happened for a long while. But September sees me having my first girly holiday with my best friends since we visited Ayia Napa back in the summer of 2008. Wild times. This is going to be a much more chill affair with less fancy dress and vodka and I’m so excited I want to jump up and down on the spot like a two year old just thinking about it .

But seeing as I’m so out of practice with the whole holiday thing, I’ve decided to re-open the forum and pose a beach-related query to you. What’s your number one, never go away without it, top beach beauty buy? Because I’m sitting here waiting with a pen and paper, ready to add your reply to my shopping list. Enable away…

My musthave for summer is Huile prodigieuse Or….for face, body, hair. Sumer ii a bottle….

  • Lily

The only hair products you need to take to somewhere hot is salt spray I’ve just been in 40 degree weather in Dubai for a week and the only hair product I used was the Toni and guy salt spray just wack a bit in and you you get instant texture and beachy hair :)

  • Hannah

The Tan and Protect sun cream from piz buin. I’m really pale (irish) and never tan, but somehow this wonder encourages my skin to become sunkissed whilst giving UVA/UVB protection.

  • http://www.crazylins.blogspot.co.uk/ Anya Cross

I’d say for after sun the Lancaster Tan Maximizer is a MUST. I got mine on the way to Malia this year and it was fantastic at both prolonging a tan and keeping my skin hydrated x

For me is some sort of salt/beach spray :)

A Little Treat | Beauty & Lifestyle Blog

  • Niamh Perschky

The Body Shop Vitamin E Cleanser! Depending on the amount of makeup you wear you could get away with only using this and moisturizer. I would suggest getting the 60ml bottle, it may seem small however it goes a long way x

  • Lauren

Toni and guy casual salt spray, it smells amazing, you can buy a mini size and it works beautifully! I also always buy p20 suncream as it really does protect you all day. xx

  • Anna

I live in Australia, and I always make sure to protect my lips at the beach. I try and find a lip balm with factor 30 – it keeps things plump and fresh rather than salty and shrivelled. Also, I take an empty spray bottle to the beach and fill it with salt water = instant (and free!) beach spray for my hair.

  • sophie coe

Soap and Glory Face SPF factor 50 to avoid the sticky sun cream face!

  • Mia

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Matt Fluid – I think it’s SPF 30, doesn’t irritate my face, provides amazing protection AND cuts down on oily sheen. I also have their SPF 30 oil spray for my body which protects incredibly well, and gives my arms and legs a lovely sheen. Let’s face it, if you can only have one item on a beach holiday, it would definitely have to be sunscreen! Outside of compulsory sun protection, I have to say Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner gets a lot of use on my holidays. Great for spritzing to cool down, and giving my skin a little extra moisture boost before slathering on lots of moisturiser all over. The key to keeping my hard won tan on pale Irish skin is keeping it well moisturised!

  • http://sweetlilyrose.blogspot.com Tessa D’haene

Rituals sun protection spf 30 (not the spray, I hate that stuff) also the sun protection from Rituals spf 50 for face. And the Vichy After Sun Daily milky care, which smells amazing btw!

    Love, Tessa.

  • Kerry

I agree with the Lancaster tan maximiser but also love Prtty Peaushun, purchased after a lisa eldridge review and love it!! Perfect holiday pins :)

  • basia

My never-go-without-it product must be Ultrasun sports and Ultrasun Face (both in choice of spf20 to spf50+). Those product are once-a-day-application (unless you sweat profusely or go for a kot of swims) and photostable. The face stuff is not only spf but also has skincare benefits. They don’t leave white cast on the skin, apply quickly and evenly. And, there’s a looot of options to choose from. I hear their after sun is amazing, too.

  • http://thatbrandandi.wordpress.com Miss VB

A cooling water spray in aerosol form is a must, La Roche Posey do them but my favourite is Magicool which you can get from Boots. Revisit your teen years and get a fun body spray like Impulse, hands up who had the Spice Girls one? So much lighter and fresher than perfume. A good SPF goes without saying and don’t forget eyes, lips and feet. The older I get the higher the SPF I go, slap this on and you’re less likely to burn and then peel after and speaking of peeling take a scrub away with you, anyone will do but nothing too abrasive or oily as it will interfere with your SPF. Finally a good conditioning hair mask. The Aussie range always keeps my hair soft and gets rid of sea salt and chlorine. Happy hols xx

This may not seem so beauty related, but wet wipes(!). They are perfect to use to wipe away sun protection in your face when you feel too greasy. They are also perfect to wipe your hands before you eat at some restaurant at the beach.

  • The slow pace

The Vichy 50 SPF BB cream. You put it on and immediately your face looks naturally beautifully slightly tanned. That’s fantastic bearing in mind that it has a 50 SPF. I’m super pale and normally high SPF creams leave my skin even paler and sticky and greasy. That jewel from Vichy does exactly the opposite!

    xx,

    E.

    http://www.theslowpace.com

  • Joanna

The Kiehl’s actively correcting bb cream is really nice. It smells a little bit strange as it has caffeine in it but it’s SPF 50 so perfect for when you’re out and about in the sun and want a little bit of coverage.

  • Angelina Boutouridis

A moisturising lip balm with SPF (I love By Terry’s Baume de Rose in the gloss form as it’s very convenient). Also I can never go without a really good body moisturiser/after sun product to deepen my tan and keep my skin hydrated. There is a Clarins one that is lovely. Enjoy your holiday! I love your blog! xx

  • Bella

I’m sure you’re sorted for skincare and SPF, so I’ll say a Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge. A few flicks of mascara and a swipe of this on lips and cheeks and you’re set for dinner or bar. Of you’re not a Pot Rouge fan the Chanel cream blushes are indispensible, and if you must sport something on your lids, either the Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier eyeshadow sticks are life- and timesavers. i prefer them to By Terry.

  • Joanne

Don’t normally comment on any of the many blogs I follow, but I am really enjoying VDM lately… so as a thank you, here’s my favourite holiday suncream for your face – Decleor Aroma Sun Expert Protective Anti-Wrinkle Cream… Amaze – You are welcome! : )

  • Emma and Emily

Nuxe reve de miel lip balm. It is seriously the best thing ever, and when it melts a little bit in the heat it is even better! Plenty of moisturser choices too.

Revlon highlighting palette in bronze glow is so great especially if you get a tan. It just gives the best glowing bronze and enhances your tan as well. You’ll look like a VS Angel. Also a face spritz; the moisturizing type ones for after a day under the sun. have fun! xo

  • Sophie Aiisha

I know that everyone is suggesting salt spray (which is a must from me too!) but after a week of sun and salt my hair was crying! So I just wanted to add my suggestion of a hair mask, if you’re swimming you’ll probably be washing your hair more as well so something thick and lovely would be a nice treat at the end of the day :) I tend to pack cheaper products on holiday so I’m not distraught if they get lost, ruined or if I want to apply them liberally so either the Dove 1 minute Oily Expressy thingy magigy or I’m using the the new Lee Stafford hair butter which is nice too. Also Aloe Vera gel for sunburn! Keep it in the fridge if you have one or stick it in a bucket of ice for a bit before applying – It”s wonderful!

Sorry my suggestions weren’t more glamorous, have a lovely time!

Chantecaille lipgloss in Lucky, SPF from Lancaster (great scent, makes your skin glow without shimmer or glitter, best protection from the sun ever!), Anastacia Lash Genius (makes your own mascara waterproof), a big huge towel and sunglasses!

  • mel

I love the sunscreensprays from Supergoop and Coola. You just spray it on and you are ready to go. It is fast and you don’t give yourself an unwanted peeling with sand and sunscreen. For lips I love the Aveda lip balm sich SPF 15. If you want a tinted lip balm, the fresh sugar Inés are nice but tend to melt in für heat.

  • LMISMINSKY

As a seasoned traveller, I find that less really is more – a clarifying shampoo, a rich conditioner (the new Bumble & Bumble one is perfect) and a salt or texturising product are great to just throw in wet hair.
For body – I take a shower gel I know I love, but without oil. Same goes for after sun/ body lotion – and I always take a full size if I can, and apply as often as I can. It keeps your skin in great condition and makes you glow!
As for your make-up bag, keep it bronze and glowy

    haha :)
Sunscreen of course, I really like the Haiwain Tropic one for the face, it’s really good, spf 30.
I also take Aloe Vera gel, as an after-sun, or coconut oil. It’s magic and does everything :)
I like to bring a spray that will protect my hair too ! I got one from Renee Furterer that i LOVE :-

Lots of love from France, Victoria

Nars Pro Prime SPF 30 primer – sunscreen and primer in one, but it can leak a bit since it’s squeezy! And La Roche Posay Eau Thermale, lovely and cool in the hot weather. I’d also take my Bourjois CC Cream – lovely light base to counteract redness with some extra SPF thrown in! Too many too choose from..

Any sunscreen but also what’s really important to have is deffo after sun. I have a spray one from Soltan and it really helped me when I went on holiday and underestimated how hot it would actually be. The temperature soared and I got burnt on the shoulders quite badly, but the after sun really helped me a lot. x

  • Jane Lam

For a trip to the beach I would bring a bronzer, Kryolan Dermacolor Fixing Powder, Maybelline Pure UV Mineral UV Pressed Powder, (SPF 50+ PA+++) blotting sheets, Boots Shimmering Lip Screen, (SPF30) Tefu Tefu Magic Code Make Up Remover Pen, blusher. Uniq One All in One Hair Treatment and Tangle Teezer. Many HK beaches don’t have shower facilities, so no shower gel etc.

  • Britta

…and for my hair i’m loving the aveda “dry remedy” line. I really like the shampoo and conditioner but the moisturizing treatment masque sounds extragood :)

  • Aarti shah

aloe vera gel and a big hat. I’m religious about sunscreen but will still manage to leave a sunny destination with a burn somewhere :(

    • Lorena

Aloe Vera gel is certainly a must ! Believe us you are not going to regret it :)

Its not a product, but definitely take a wet brush/tangle teezer in your beech bag to comb back fly-aways, especially if you are going in the pool/sea! x

Second the Huile prodigieuse Or, good sunscreen such as Garnier Clear and Protect which is not oily at all and a gold skin illuminator for the evening (St Tropez gold). I used Kiehls midnight recovery on holiday recently which really helped.

This sounds great, I’m adding it to my holiday list!

  • Mariella (Musing on Beauty)

LRP Matte SPF 50 for the face :) Or even a tinted SPF that replaces the usual base!
Also a good powder so I don’t shine, a nice cream blush (bourjois for example), and Nuxe body oil!

  • Angie O

An absolute must-have for me is Clinique’s Super City Block SPF 40. It’s lightly tinted and doesn’t leave my skin oily.

  • http://www.vanillainnovember.blogspot.co.uk Vanilla In November

A must have for me is a really moisturising body butter incase of sunburn or my skin drys out in the sun. Coconut oil is a basic, cheap and cheerful choice but also Palmers Cocoa Butter is great because it’s really nourishing and has added vitamin e in to help skin heal but without an fragrance to upset skin. Lovely post. Katie x

Eminence Organics Sweet Red Rose Toner (hydrates, soothes, and also contains salicylic acid to gently exfoliate). I love spraying this on my face when I feel like I’m starting to sweat a little bit but I’m not going to be washing my face anytime soon (aka beach day!). I also rely on organic coconut oil (a natural moisturizer and sun protectant for body/hair), smells amazing and works wonders!

  • http://artfarmblog.com/ Katie Brown // Art Farm

SPF! I’ve been loving the Benefit Screen for face lately. I find that when I’m on a beach vacation and its very hot, I end up not wearing a lick of makeup at all. Just SPF and something moisturizing to sooth the skin.

  • Caroline Lilja

My two must haves are SPF (of course) and Avène Thermal Spring Water! The best of the best! (Y) :D

I absolutely love the Nuxe Sun Refreshing After-Sun Lotion, it seriously sorted me out after I was very irresponsible and didn’t put on enough block while kayaking. The Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Deep Conditioning Protein Pack is great for sun/sea/pool stressed hair and because it is in a single use packet great for travelling and my hands down favourite summer smell is Jo Malone English Pear And Freesia Cologne – crisp, light and beautiful. Have a lovely holiday! x

Almost forgot to mention the Sun Visor Goldfaden MD Ultralight Oil Free SPF 30 Mist. This stuff is outrageously expensive but I treated myself and my goodness I loved it…holiday treat only I would say. Went back to Nivea when I got home. x

  • http://finedestination.tumblr.com/ Hannah

A good sunscreen is a must, but I also always take aloe vera gel and/or coconut oil in case I forget to apply SPF often enough and get a little burned. They’re both great for cooling the burn and coconut oil magically turns your burn into a tan in just a couple days while keeping it from peeling. Plus they can both double as a body moisturizer, so it’s a multi-purpose product to save space in your luggage!

I always forget this and end up buying it there, but aloe spray – I like the Banana Boat one. Not only is it super soothing on burnt skin and helps to heal it, it just feels nice on the body after a day out in the sun and you feel guilt free of being wasteful because it’s a big bottle and super cheap! I keep mine in the fridge on holiday and it’s heaven!

Everyone’s suggesting their fav sunscreens and aftersuns (seconding all the La Roche Posay recommendations – definitely one of the best sunscreen brands around), so I’ll go with my favourite all-rounder makeup item – Nars The Multiple in Orgasm. Yes, it’s a cult item, but for a really good reason – it does work incredibly well as a multi-purpose product. I have a really cute travel sized version, and it’s just utterly perfect for popping in your bag. Blush, highlight, eyes, lips, it’s good for everything! I succumbed to the ‘Portofino’ version recently, and that looks amazing on tanned skin.

  • Suzy

My number one product for holidays is Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment. It’s a miracle for bites, rashes and sunburn!! I’m actually in the middle of a travel essentials series on my blog! Check it out here: http://espressowithlace.wordpress.com/

GOE OIL. It smells amazing, like monoi oil. It can be used to moisturise anything which makes it a wonderful multi tasking product. Lastly it comes in a handy 3oz tube. Just look it up!

Coppertone sunscreen sprays – the only sunscreen to not leave me sun burned. Withstood hours walking around in themeparks. Elizabeth Arden 8 hour as a multipurpose just – in – case, Benefit Dallas, Hoola & Nars Orgasm for when I tan, Coconut oil for the hair & L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara (Waterproof) – not a option anymore.
